Red Clay Ramblers Jack Herrick & Bland Simpson Release New Song "Dear Megan Rapinoe"
Chapel Hill, NC (July 1st, 2023) -- "Dear Megan Rapinoe" is the latest song to be written and released by Jack Herrick and Bland Simpson of the Tony Award-winning North Carolina string band, The Red Clay Ramblers.
"Dear Megan Rapinoe" honors the great soccer player Megan Rapinoe and was inspired by her speech at New York City Hall (July 10th, 2019), during the festivities following the US Women's National Team's 2019 championship victory in Lyon, France.
The song also celebrates the recent naming of the 2023 US Women's National Team (June 21st, 2023) and the current 2023 Women's World Cup season.
Composer/Lyricists Herrick (UNC '70) and Simpson (UNC '70; UNC Kenan Distinguished Professor) have recorded and toured internationally together with the renowned Red Clay Ramblers for decades. They share in the 1999 Special Tony Award for the 3-time Ramblers-Irwin-Shiner Broadway hit Fool Moon, and their work appears in the scores of Sam Shepard's films Far North and Silent Tongue, Nick Searcy's Paradise Falls (aka Carolina Low) and in numerous musicals produced in regional and New York theatres. The new release follows the Ramblers' 50 Songs and Tunes, the band's 50th anniversary album:
